Unlock routes should reduce confusion first. Prioritize systems that make future runs easier to read before chasing niche builds.

Practical decision
First character milestone: Imelda into Pasqualina
Imelda becomes available after the first Mad Forest run. Reaching level 20 with Imelda in Inlaid Library unlocks Pasqualina, whose purple-card trigger increases hand size and whose Crawler play increases Area. This is a concrete early goal because it opens a character that teaches hand and area scaling at the same time.
Polentir in Furious Forest opens the Fortune Teller's tent. Arcana affects the rules of the whole run, so unlocking that system creates more options than one isolated damage card. Use it as the first major branch after the basic Mad Forest loop is stable.
Grim Grimoire in Library West Wing tracks discovered Evolutions and Unions and highlights pieces already held. It removes repeated memory work from every run. That makes it a stronger account-wide unlock than another recipe learned only from an external chart.
Pick early Arcana goals you can progress naturally
Over the Top unlocks after playing Crawler cards 100 times, while Your Shield My Liege follows a cumulative 2,000 armor milestone. Both reward normal play and improve repeatable systems: Crawler cycling and armor retention. Track these in parallel instead of forcing a fragile one-run challenge.
Stabilize Mad Forest, buy one structural shop fix, unlock Imelda, branch to Furious Forest for Polentir, clear Inlaid Library toward Grim Grimoire, then tackle Teeny Bridge for Stardust Anvil. Deviate when a named bottleneck is more urgent, but always know which permanent system the detour is buying.
